Graham’s practice involves making mycorrhizal connections between ecosystems, culture, art, and community.
He works with both historic and new community orchards and gardens.
He utilises film and photography, as well as materials derived from these places such as charcoal made from apple tree twigs, fruit tree prunings and decaying apples as sound sources.
Through his work, Graham explores and engages with Southend’s fruit growing heritage. Despite only a tiny fragment remaining, these spaces represent life, decay, and regrowth.
His practice raises questions surrounding resilience, carbon capture, and local food justice/security. These themes are particularly relevant as we navigate a post-climate change, post-pandemic, and post-Brexit bioregional landscape.
Graham Burnett is an artist, writer, permaculturist and community practitioner rooted in Southend-on-Sea.
